Title: Windmill #2
Post by: Dave on August 14, 2020, 12:11:53 PM
OK firstly the reason for #2 is because the first windmill was made from ply, which was suggested on the plans. After a year of it being in the garden and going through a cold winter the ply started to delaminate so that one was thrown away. As the watermill wasn't much of a success either I decided to do windmill#2.

So It's pretty much the same build as #1 but all the timber used is solid pine, so hopefully it wont start breaking up after a year.

First job was the create the sails.

The next job was to create the base. As the timber was not wide enough I had to join pieces together as you will see in the 3rd photo below

Now the base roof supports are added

Now to make the sides of the main windmill, again as the timber was not wide enough I have joined pieces together. I put the top of the base on also.

Now the roof section was made

Now to put it all together to make sure it fits

Once I was happy with that I started to create the doors and windows and the tail sail.

The next lot of photos are of it being painted, the base having it's wallpaper added and then 2 coats of external varnish for protection and then putting it all together

And that is it. Not sure what the next project is but watch this space for updates

That seems a lot of work, but the end product looks fantastic.

Well done  :thumbsup
