Yes I know I had never heard of one either but there is such a thing and Shirl (wife) and her friend Mary went to a sewing show in London and saw one there and asked me to make her one, similar to the ones below

I decided that it would be nice if I did dovetail joints, which is something I've never done before and with a router sitting on the shelf I haven't used yet now is the ideal opportunity.

These were the test pieces

So after a lot of testing with the dovetail jig and wrong set ups I finally got it right and started joining it together.

Now time to put a rounded edge to the lid

With that done it's time to make the liner and dividers. This was made for 3mm ply

Liner and dividers done I can now insert everything inside

With some extra sanding down the lid fits nice and snugly

Shirl decided that the finish was to be satin varnish, so that's what it got. On the bottom I stuck on felt so it wouldn't damage any other surfaces.

That's it for the moment...it's not the final step as Shirl is going to pick the items she wants me to glue to the top. Once that is done I will post the final photo below

Very cool  :yes

My mom was a seamstress after the war and had a small sewing business.

In her old age she still sewed and made stuff, she would of loved one of these  ;)

Thanks John,

My Mum used to make lose covers for a local firm when she was younger. She used an old singer sewing machine with a motor at the side of it....made a hell of a noise :shh
