Another day and another new project. This time it is a bird box with a difference. I got some logs to make my wife a fairy door...and while I was doing that I thought about creating a bird box from what was left over and here it is.
Started off with the log and cut off a 25mm section to create the removeable bottom section so it can be cleaned out, if it's used that is.
I then drilled 2 x 5mm holes and screwed in 2 x 6mm bolts. Once the bolts were firmly in place I cut off the heads and filed down the cut edges.
Next this was the drill the 25mm hole for the bird box entrance. Now to start the cutting out of the inside of the log. This proved more difficult that I thought it would as the pillar drill would only go down so far even with the stop removed so I ended up cut the last section using just a mallet and chisel, which took a few hours.
Once that was done then I coated the top and bottom with exterior varnish to help protect it.
Now to fit the keyhole hanger and fix it to the shed
The saying goes 'If you build it they will come' let's hope that's true for this.
Very cool that... :thumbsup
